Food for Thought: Breakthroughs in Ultra High-Speed Post

Post-Production executives, supervisors, and engineers learned about the latest developments in ultra high-speed workflows during Cutting Edge’s recent Hollywood Beer Alliance lunch at Loreley Biergarten in West Hollywood.

Food for Thought: Breakthroughs in High Speed Post was hosted by Cutting Edge’s LA manager Zeke Margolis, and sponsored by our partners at Open Drives, Arista, and Black Magic Design. Attendees learned about the latest developments in 100 Gigabit/second storage and networking for movie and television editorial and color correction workflows.

For example, did you know:

  • The size of an 8K frame is 4320 x 7680
  • The 16 bit colorspace image can represent 65,563 colors per channel
  • An 8K UHD 16 bit EXR frame is 200 MB/Frame, which equates to a data rate of 4.8 GB/s at 24fps?

If you missed the event, we’ve uploaded a copy of the presentation:
